Experience with chickens:

I have been keeping various breeds of chickens (including ex-battery hens) for 11 years and been running chicken keeping courses for two years (longer to my friends).

I learnt the hard way; by my own experiences, with the support of others and constant researching of information, I now have a wealth of knowledge which I like to pass onto others. My courses have been approved by Neil Forbes (Recognised RCVS and European College Specialist in Bird Medicine)

I have run courses at summer camps and colleges, as well as schools and organisations wanting to keep chickens on their premises and advising them of the best solutions to suit them. Our local paper has done an article on ‘Chicken School’, BBC radio Swindon has broadcast a week of ‘Chicken School’. Alongside ‘Blenheim films’ we have made a DVD ‘How to Keep Chickens’, I have also been in ‘Practical Poultry’ magazine and been asked by ‘Grow You Own’ magazine to write three monthly features.

I have written a booklet which compliments the course and sell this on our website as an e-book or printed copy. I am currently writing another book which I hope to publish.

Chicken School is an unbiased organisation; we offer sound advice and promote good chicken keeping skills to ensure people get the most from their hens.

As well as group courses we also offer a hands on personal and tailored service, running unique 1-2-1 courses which are ideal for families with children, schools, colleges etc. either at your or our premises. We also offer an advisory / consultancy service to existing keepers, smallholders etc. We will teach you everything you need to know to get you started and much more.

Chicken Keeping Group Courses Information

In order that people get the best from the group course spaces are limited to 6 places. Everyone attending the course receives an excellent presentation / booklet reinforcing the course content for future reference.
